The Mrs. Brings Home The Buck

Chip October 27, 2008 Deer

This comes from Aaron Enget out in Colorado.  He and his wife Jody were hunting on Cevey Pennington’s ranch in Elizabeth, CO, a place where they had good luck last year.  With buck tags in hand, they headed up to a ridge to overlook a bottom where several mule deer have been seen.  It wasn’t long before Aaron took a small 5×5 to put some meat in the freezer.

Later in the afternoon it was Jody’s turn.  She took a bead on a nice buck and let loose at a little over 300 yards.  It was a miss so they headed back to the ranch to help with some chores.  They headed back to the ridge as the sun was going down to see if anything was moving around.

As the sun passed below the Rocky Mountains, they spotted this buck emerging from a cedar thicket.  Jody quickly set up as Aaron kept an eye on it and ranged the shot at 215 yards.  ”Breathe, take your time, just sque….”  KABOOM! and down it went.  Even more impressive, Jody will be delivering their fourth child in two months!

Congratulations to Aaron & Jody for a fine weekend’s work.  Hopefully we’ll have some luck when Aaron & I head to the Dakotas in two weeks for some pheasant and deer.

Tough gal! Not sure what it feels like to be 5 months pregnant, and I’m quite sure that I’ll never know exactly, but it sure sounds like something that might keep me from hiking the hills in search of a buck!
