Ram Tough In Wyoming

June 11th, 2009

Wonderful video of a bighorn sheep taking on a Toyota near a rest stop in Sinks Canyon State Park, Wyoming. While most folks (this author included) are consistently astonished at the chances taken in places like Yellowstone by visitors approaching wildlife, this little guy takes it up a notch.  According to the videographer, this sheep “was mock-fighting parked cars (but) not making contact.”

No word on whether the driver actually got to use the “facilities”.

Muley Subject Of Cruel Wedgie Prank

April 30th, 2009

Spooky things happen around cemeteries but this one from a couple years ago is downright strange.  A young non-typical mule buck failed to clear the fence of the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, Wyoming and wound up somewhat impaled, unable to free himself.

Why Wyoming

March 27th, 2009

When time and money are at a minimum, making the most of a hunting trip is critical.  Ted Stoney of Charleston, South Carolina did just on an ‘07 trip to Wyoming.  Bagging pheasant, pronghorn and a muley always provide stories for the campfire and these trophies didn’t disappoint.  See more photos after the jump. The Moose Is Loose

February 21st, 2009

This photo may not seem particularly remarkable and I suppose it’s not, but consider it was taken by a snowboarder and the moose was in the middle of the trail.

There’s nothing like bombing down the mountain through the trees right into a big ass moose snacking on the cat track.

The shots were taken by my brother on a recent trip to Jackson Hole and it wasn’t their only sighting;  they had another moose outside their chalet that week.

Of particular note, a local cab driver told him “they were trying to get hunters to come in and thin out the elk” so if you’ve got any insight into that, let me know, I’d like to get in on it!

Elk Hunter Escapes Mauling

October 8th, 2008

If you haven’t already heard this story out of Wyoming last week, take heed as you prepare to head into the hills this season.

Ron Leming Sr. (pictured) had already missed two standing elk and on this day, was thirty yards downhill from his son, Ron Leming Jr.  While calling in an elk, the son heard a noise behind and turned to find himself fifteen feet from a grizzly and unable to get off a shot at it, he jumped behind a tree before tearing off downhill.  Ron’s dad let loose an arrow at the bruin as his son went by and was uncertain if it found its mark.  ”I took three or four more steps and I fell.  The bear was on top of me,” said Ron Jr.   Read more…

Jackson Hole Bull From Six Yards

September 24th, 2008

This report came in from Bill “Bearpaw / Bathgate” Groom of Minnesota:  while booking a snowmobile trip at Togwotee Lodge in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, he asked about elk activity.  The guy on the other end of the phone told him the story of this bull he had arrowed just a few days earlier.

After a couple bugles, it came to within six yards before he let the arrow fly!  And while packing up to leave, an even larger bull came strolling up the hill towards them.  Apparently they had finished gutting and the hunter’s buddy, who had been learning to call, was messing about with the bugle and here it came……
