Hot Summer Nights

March 23rd, 2009

Stroll into any Walgreens, CVS or Walmart these days and you’re likely to run smack into a display of sunblock & suntan oils bigger’n Dallas, at least here on the southern coast anyway.  Along with thoughts of tan lines and Tropicana models are billfish, and the particular challenge of spending a late night pursuing swordfish.

The 76 lbs catch pictured here was caught aboard the Reel Jim a couple years ago in July during an overnight trip out of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina.  Glowsticks are rigged to the lines in order to keep an eye on what’s what.  Fishing in the open Atlantic for big game is one thing, doing it at night takes it up a couple notches on the ol’ difficulty-o-meter but it is a trip not to be missed if you have the chance.  See more photos after the jump. Bangin’ The Drum

July 30th, 2008

Ol’ Billy Bertram got a hold of some big drum off of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina with friends Paul & Gene Ingle.  Some call them redfish or channel bass, but these guys flat out caught some dinner!
