This yearling deer wandered from his mother to visit a couple neighbors. No story on how the introduction went, but the photos tell the story. After a few minutes, the horses left the doe returned to gather up the fawn.

We’ve mentioned before that if you’re not outdoors, you don’t know what you may miss and these shots of deer swimming in eastern North Carolina are a great example. Thanks to Beach Billy for forwarding these photos taken by David Smith. Smith was near their hunting camp while heading out to wet a line. The story doesn’t end there, check out the school of redfish busting the water after the jump.

As most folks settled in for the big white blowdown that swept the midwest, leave it to a Doubletough regular to hit the woods. Billy “Bearpaw” Groom of Minnesota settled into a ground blind near Ely, MN with temperatures around the -8 mark and got ‘er done with a bow.
“I was watching an 8 pointer to my right and this guy pushed through the trees at about 50 yards,” said Groom as he told the tale of the hunt. ”I finally got a presenting shot at 39 yards. He fell 75 yards later. The 8 pointer wouldn’t cross the path of my hunting blind. I saw him the day before and (he) acted the same way – did not like the black window opening of the blind.”
Great job Bearpaw! Billy joined the Doubletough legion during our first deer camp a couple years ago at White Earth, North Dakota and is among the finest folks I know. See more photos of his hunt after the jump. Read more…

Here’s a follow up on the post from a couple weeks ago, it seems the folks in corn country have had more than one buck jam up their equipment. I thought I had seen something familiar when those latest pics came through and going back through my archives, Doubletougher Aaron Enget of Colorado sent these along back in ‘06. This occurred in “the greatest state in the Union” (according to Aaron), North Dakota. Yet another buck was caught in a combine while bedded in a cornfield during harvest.
Both the previous post and this one show that these are young bucks which reminds me of the saying, “there are no old, dumb deer.” I guess that goes for avoid hunters and farmers! Check out the full process of extracting the buck after the jump. Read more…
