Survival Of The Fittest

Just when you thought swans were simple park decorations, a series of photos comes along that demonstrates exactly how tough they are.  Once you get your head around the idea of a bald eagle actually going after a full-grown swan in midflight, that the swan is able free himself from those talons is amazing.

These photographs are attributed to Tom Carver of Terrace, British Columbia.  He is the owner of The Water Lily Bay Resort on Lekelse Lake and he spends quite a bit of time feeding swans and says eagles are common in the area.  Never during all the time he has spent with them has he witnessed such an event.

In the end, the swan gets away and the eagle moved on.  The swan fell out of the sky into the lake, shook off the attack and swam away.
