Three-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier KC Jones isn’t new to hunting – far from it. When he’s not leaping from his horse at 30mph to latch on to a steer and wrestle it to the ground, there’s a good chance he’s in mountains of Colorado after elk and other game. ”I love to get up in the mountains and challenge myself. Hunting elk and being one-on-one with mother nature is a nice release from the daily grind of the road and daily routine of trying to be the best,” explains KC on his website. ”It is a great mental challenge when you get to pit yourself against the great outdoors. You can cover a lot of ground if you just keep putting one foot in front of the other.”
KC knocked down this 6×6 bull in October 2007. As a full-time rodeo cowboy, finding the time required to get into the woods, set up camp, locate, track, kill (hopefull) and pack out an animal can be hard to come by. Being among the best steer wrestlers in the world means even more time on the road and if he’s among the top fifteen of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association come November, he’ll be headed to Vegas for the NFR and hopes of a world championship. So hunting means making efficient use of the little bit of time he has to get “out there”.
There’s a great account of a 2003 hunt on his website, click here to check it out. And you can keep up with his quest for the PRCA’s National Finals Rodeo here, just click “steer wrestling” to see the latest standings for his event.

Now that’s a good reason to root for the fella. Nice bull and beautiful photos, too.
Oops – are we allowed to use the word beautiful on DoubleTough?
