Doubletough contributor Beach Billy forwarded this photos from a client who was in Alaska earlier this year on a salmon fishing trip. Lots of bear sightings, wolf, eagles and more, see the photos and the story after the jump.
I was in the Bristol Bay Watershed area in Southwest Alaska. The Bristol Bay
Watershed is home to Alaska’s greatest wild salmon runs, mighty rivers
flowing down from snow-capped mountains across desolate tundra, filled with
leaping salmon, big rainbow trout, and of abundant wildlife. I was staying
at Katmai Lodge on the Alagnak River. This region is home to both the
world’s largest runs of wild salmon and Alaska’s finest trophy rainbow trout
fishery. The overall trip was great, highlighted by the single best fly fishing day
in my life. I caught 50 Chum Salmon, between 10 and 15 pounds! That’s
amazing on a fly rod!Bears, eagles and other wildlife were everywhere. Selected attached pictures
tell the story!I have been going to Alaska fishing for 20 years and Katmai Lodge is by far
the best place for not only fishing but accommodations and hospitality I
have experienced. I highly recommend it for the ultimate fishing/wildlife
wilderness experience!
The angler, we’ll call him Bob, reminds me I need to call my cousin’s soon-to-be-husband and hit him for an Alaska trip….
