This rare albino mule deer was photographed near Meeker, Colorado a couple years ago. The big question is how it has lasted as long as it has and no word on whether it made through the ’06 season when this photo was taken, but considering it’s Colorado, the white coat probably provided excellent cover in the winter.
Albinism in deer isn’t unheard of; the story of an albino fawn made its way around the ‘net last year, complete with YouTube videos. There is some question as to whether they are true albinos, complete with pink eyes (due to no coloration in the iris) or if it is just a white coat. Regardless, it remains a rare find. And in my book, one to be taken out of the gene pool.
